Vendor Spotlight: Brackish Bow Ties

Brackish, the original feather bow tie, is a true Pure Luxe Bride favorite! It all started with a simple problem; finding the perfect groomsmen gift. When looking for a unique and personal gift, co-founder Ben Ross created the first turkey feather bow tie. These one of a kind bow ties were an instant hint! Every bow tie is handcrafted in South Carolina. Each tie is a sustainable work of art, with every single feather being hand selected. In addition to bow ties, Brackish also has a line of pins to accompany any of the signature bow ties or as a stand alone piece. Brackish makes the perfect statement for any event! Bill Murray himself was spotted repping the Brackish original at George Clooney's wedding, how cool!

Planning Tip Tuesday:What to Wear for your Engagement Session

Engagement sessions are great in so many ways. It gives you the chance to be in front of the camera together before the big day, feel comfortable with yourselves and your photographer, and have beautiful pictures to use for your website, save the dates, guest sign in books, etc.! With all of that being said, there can be a little bit of pressure and lots of questions to prepare. Pure Luxe Bride interviewed photographer Jill Osteen with Aaron and Jillian Photography , and got some insight on engagement sessions. Hopefully this can ease some your mind for your shoot! PLB: How should a couple choose the location of their shoot?

Jillian: Location is really important for these photos so find a place that's special for the two of you! One of our couples loved the movie The Notebook, so we shot their engagement session at one of the locations used for the movie! If you own a boat or are on the water a lot, consider scheduling 1/2 of your session on a boat or at the marina.

PLB: Should they bring anything with them?

Jillian: This really depends on the couple and the location! Say your fiancé is in the military, consider bringing an American flag to the shoot. Any interests that you two may share, bring something to display that. If you both really love coffee, bring your two favorite mugs and grab a seat on a bench downtown. Or did you meet on an airplane like one of our Pure Luxe Bride couples? Bring a toy replica of the airplane to commemorate that aspect of your love story!

Engagment American Flag Engagement object

PLB: Can their fluffy friend tag along for the shoot?

Jillian: Of course! We personally love dogs, so we definitely want to see furry four-legged friends at our clients engagement shoots! Remember to ask your photographer beforehand if this is okay, and always arrange for a friend to come "doggy sit" while your photographer is finishing taking photos of just you and your fiancé.

View More:

PLB: What should our couples wear to the shoot?

Jillian: Definitely wear a color that you look great in! The more color you wear, the better; as long as your outfits are complimentary colors! Most pastels work really well for downtown shoots in Charleston! For girls, cute dresses are a fabulous option, especially paired with a beautiful necklace and some cute shoes! Try to embrace dark blue jeans and fun colorful shoes! Plaids and stripes tend to photograph really well, we personally prefer them over a solid color shirt for guys.

PLB: Is there anything our brides should avoid wearing?

Jillian: Flowy Shirts! While the flowy shirt is stunning in person, it runs the risk of making you look bigger and it really doesn't photograph well. Aside from that, try not to be too matchy-matchy with your significant other, and plan out what you are going to wear with one another before the shoot! This may be a given, but avoid athletic shoes unless your shoot is literally on a track!

PLB: Any reminders for the day of the shoot?

Jillian: Clean your ring! Chances are your photographer is going to take a couple photos of your sparkly companion. Professional hair and makeup is another huge thing, it takes your photos from great to fabulous. If you're not good at doing these things on your own, try taking a day for yourself and getting dolled up. Its worth your investment to make sure you look your absolute best for these! At the end of the day, if you feel great, you'll look great, and that's what really matters!

Magnolia Plantation Wedding: Melody + Andrew

Melody and Andrew said their vows at the Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church nearby and then were followed by their friends and family to Magnolia Plantation for the reception. The carriage house was decorated with trees by Plants Alive that added to the already rustic feel of the Carriage House. Ivory and beige linens and white flowers popped against the foliage and dark wooden setting. The night was filled with amazing food and dancing as everyone celebrated the union of this lovely couple.

A passing shower couldn’t damper this beautiful bride’s day as she did her first look on the red bride on the Magnolia Plantation property, joined by her groom and stunning bridesmaids. Melody’s bridesmaids were each dressed in different long, beige dresses that were beaded and sequined, and were the perfect accent to Melody’s white beaded wedding gown. The décor of the reception also has an ivory and beige color scheme. Both the bridal party’s bouquets and arrangements in the Carriage House were full of white peonies, accented by slight hints of pink. Melody’s bouquet was uniquely arranged in dusty miller with pink and white peonies and roses and bright magenta astilbe. Each table was set with multiple small clusters of white flowers and cotton with hints of pink in vintage glasses and assorted mercury glass votives. The ivory draping stood out against the dark beams and potted trees that lined the center of the venue and led to the dance floor.

After a romantic ceremony at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, guests of Melody and Andrew joined them at plantation for cocktail hour, drinks being served by Squeeze. Friends and family mingled in the carriage house and outside by the fire pit, lit by café lighting. The bridal party was soon announced in, followed closely behind by the newlyweds. The couple shared their first dances and cut their cake by Alisa Channell before stations were opened for dinner. Southern inspired stations by Mosaic included: BBQ sliders, skewers, shrimp and grits and mac and cheese, all presented on vintage wooden stands and boxes to match the décor.

IMG_3431-2IMG_4374-2IMG_5386IMG_5401IMG_5467-2IMG_5531_bwAfter a night filled with socializing and dancing to the sounds of Epic Charleston, guests made their way outside to give Melody and Andrew a proper send off to continue their night downtown. Friends and family lit a path with sparklers to the white Rolls Royce awaiting the newlyweds. The bride and groom drove away, waving goodbye, ready to begin the next chapter of their lives together!

Marion's in The French Quarter Wedding: Kellianne & Peter

On October 27th, Kellianne and Peter said their vows at the Saint Luke’s Chapel in downtown Charleston. It was a beautiful day for a wedding, sun shining as the bride and groom and their beloved dog Maggie captured this day that they will remember forever. After the ceremony, the newlyweds made their way to the Waterfront Park for pictures and guests headed to Marion’s in the French Quarter for cocktail hour.

Cocktail hour was held in the foyer of Marion’s and guests mingled around the bar. Pictures of Kellianne, Peter, Maggie and family and friends covered the shelves behind the bar and beautiful crafted decorations to match her navy blue, apple green, and white color scheme were sprinkled around the reception. Keeping to the Southern charm of the décor, monograms could be found anywhere from the crafted canvases to the menus. Votive candles were scattered around the venue with custom pearl accents, handmade by the mother of the bride.

After their photo shoot by the water, Kellianne and Peter were announced into Marion’s and shared their first dance to Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. The smell of warm apple cinnamon cider filled the room, being the specialty drink of the night. Tables were set with beautiful floral arrangements of white hydrangeas with a green accent by Wild Flower Inc. A plated dinner by B. Gourmet came after a blessing. Guests enjoyed a salad and butternut squash soup, followed by their chosen entrees.

Their beautiful cake by Twenty Six Divine was a perfect match to the colors and theme, also complete with a monogram. The three-tiered square cake had a blue and green flower pattern on the bottom, monogram and polka dots for the middle, and a top-tier with white roses. Twenty Six Divine also provided apple pie pops which were in planters next to the gorgeous cake.

After dinner and desserts had been eaten, the dance floor opened and guests congregated around the bar. The smell from Copperpot Confections making fresh pralines on site in the foyer filled the venue and wafted onto East Bay Street.   The dog lovers that they are, Kellianne and Peter also had doggie bags for their four-legged friends, filled with handmade dog treats.

She has worked with many brides in the past year and the transformation they have experienced in both body and mind during the planning process is incredible. Melora offers several different wedding packages including Bachelorette and Bridal Shower sessions, Private One-on-One sessions with the bride, Bride and Groom sessions and even sessions for the entire Bridal Party. She also offers Wedding Day-of Yoga. What a fabulous idea!

What better way to unwind and enjoy a stress free weekend than with deep relaxation yoga. Follow Serenity Tree Yoga on Facebook and learn more about Melora here! Check out the review below from one of Melora's brides as well!

“I worked with her in class and also in one-on-one sessions in preparation for my wedding, as a self-proclaimed crazy Bridezilla I wanted to let go of anxious energy and learn to be in the moment so that on my wedding day, I could feel present and open. As a bride, there is so much chaos going on around you that it is easy to absorb all that distraction and not truly be “in the moment”, not only as the big day approaches but on the actual wedding day. On my wedding morning, Melora and I climbed on the roof of my beachhouse at IOP and did 2 hours of yoga and reiki. This was before the craziness of the day began, where it was just her and I and our mats. I can honestly say it was the BEST thing I did for myself for my wedding day. All my worries, fear, anxiety and constant stream of thoughts just disappeared and I was able to walk down the aisle feeling like the only emotion that remained in my body was pure, overflowing happiness and joy.

What a gift to be able to truly experience such an important day from a heart that is open and clear. I never, ever would have been able to have that experience if it weren’t for the work I did with Melora, for the things she has taught me along the way, and for the yoga that morning on the rooftop. I promise you, it will make such a difference in how you experience your special day. It is a gift to give yourself. Everybody says that your wedding day flies by and it is over before you know it. This is partly true. But I know that my experience was different, my memories clear of each and every beautiful second. The best part was I wasn’t nervous, I was just really, really happy. Thank you Melora for helping me have that experience of truly “being present” and living in the moment. You are the best!!"

Hibernian Hall Wedding: Dixie + Patrick

We were so honored to have Dixie + Patrick's wedding as our first of 2014 - and what a beautiful wedding it was! The ceremony took place at St. Luke's Chapel, on MUSC's campus in downtown Charleston. Dixie looked timeless in her gown and red lip, while Patrick and his best gentlemen sported dashing black tuxedos. Our bride elegantly walked down the aisle with her father to Overture from Music for the Royal Fireworks by G.F. Handel.

After exchanging their vows, the newlyweds invited guests to enjoy the remainder of the evening with them in historical, downtown Charleston. Hibernian Hall looked simply romantic; the neutral tables were accented with gold runners as the glow from the classic chandeliers illuminated the hall. Wild Flowers' hydrangea's, tulips and lisianthus breathed life into the room, accompanied by tall, elegant baby's breath arrangements in latour trumpet vases.

With a perfect combination of southern treats and traditional favorites, Hamby catered the delicious station-style dinner. There was a carving station accompanied by a mashed potato bar, a build-your-own pasta station with all the fix-ins you could possibly imagine, and our groom's favorite, the crab cake and asparagus station. After cutting the single-tiered chocolate cake, guests enjoyed Holy City Sweet's scrumptious cupcakes.

Dixie + Patrick danced the night away to the musical styling of DJ Wade. The Other Brother Entertainment DJ did a fantastic job of mixing some of the bride and groom's favorite oldies with the beats of today's hits - what fun! Per the bride's romantic request for a slow song, she and Patrick also enjoyed some time on the dance floor to enjoy being husband and wife.
