Wedded Bliss Tip: 12 Makeup Mistakes We Don't Want Our Brides to Make

What could be more important than the dress, the veil, the shoes... nothing right?! Wrong! After spending money on all of these wedding day necessities, not to mention the photographer and the videographer, the perfect look starts with the perfect make up!
1. Book a makeup trial Don't skip scheduling a trial with your makeup artist! This is a very important step in figuring out what look you want on your special day. Make sure you and your makeup artist are on the same page - the last thing you want is a smokey eye for your light and romantic wedding.

2. Looking like someone else Your wedding day really isn't the time to experiment with makeup. You should look like the best version of yourself. Makeup is meant to accentuate your best features, not change your face entirely! You want your groom to recognize you as you walk down the aisle...

3. Skimping on waterproof Just don't. You're hugging, kissing, crying, dancing, and more on your special day so just don't skimp on the waterproof anything! Primer, foundation, setting powder, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, and whatever else you can think of.
4. Keeping makeup looks uniform between you and your bridesmaids As the bride, you should definitely stand out from the rest of the bridal party. You're already wearing a stunning dress so why not continue the trend by making your makeup different from that of your bridesmaids too?! If you don't want to see a dramatic difference, just steak your look a little so that you remain the focus.

5. Using lipstick instead of lip stain Some lipsticks "promise" long-wear coverage that won't come off, but just to be safe, we recommend using a lip stain in stead! We don't want red lipstick on his collar, or worse, your dress.

6. Leaving your wedding makeup look as the last detail you think about Your makeup is as important as your veil - don't forget about it! As soon as you've chosen your gown, figure out what makeup look you want to go for. This can help you create the entire look.

7. OD'ing on highlighter You will be a glowing goddess on your wedding day, we can guarantee it! You don't need to OD on the highlighter or it will leave your face looking shiny and oily, instead of happy and glowy. Apply highlighter only to your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and on the inner corners of your eyes.

8. Trying false lashes for the first time Again, not the time to experiment. If you want fuller, thicker lashes, use makeup to get the same effect or opt to glue on individual lash clusters with clear glue because they're easy to apply yourself. If you're getting your makeup done, practice this with them as well.

9. Plucking your eyebrows the day of It's never a good idea to mess with your face the day of your wedding. If you wax or have your eyebrows done professionally, make your appointment several days before. This way, no rash or unsightly red bumps will appear on your face on the morning of.

10. Getting your first spray tan the day before your wedding Spray tans are practically impossible to remove. If you've never gotten one before, schedule a trial run a month before your date. You can discuss what you want and get a peek at how it'll look beforehand.

11. Caking on foundation because you think it'll make your skin look better in photos No one looks better in photos with more base makeup on. Use waterproof foundation base only where you need it. Too much makes brides look like they're wearing theater makeup - unnatural, and caked on.

12. Go bold or go home! Play up one area of your face - your eyes, your lips, whatever - just do it! Choose only one feature to accentuate and then balance out the rest of your face. Whatever you decide, you will look beautiful!

Top Father Daughter Dance Songs for the Modern and Traditional Bride

The Father-Daughter dance is such an important moment in both a bride's and her father's lives. The only suggestion we have for our brides is to make it one they'll remember! Choose a song that is special to you both or learn a cute dance to do together and just have fun with it! This is a pivotal moment that your dad has been looking forward to his entire life. We chose our favorite Father-Daughter Dance songs and have established our top picks. Which song will you choose?
Francesca's Pick:Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. I'm partial because it's my Daddy's favorite song and the song he and I danced to on my wedding night. It's not what I originally planned - but was able to find out it was what he really wanted and surprised him the night of the wedding.
Blake's Pick: Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. It's hard for me to choose just one but this song is so special!
Anayis' Pick: The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra. I've always imagined my dad and I dancing to this on my wedding day!
London's Pick: My Girl by The Temptations. My dad and I have known that this is the song we will dance to at my wedding for a very long time! Even now whenever I hear it, I let the him know I'm thinking about him.

Wedding Traditions You Don't Have to Follow

"Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue..." Wedding traditions can sometimes feel as old as the concept of marriage itself, and for the modern couple, these traditions just won't do! We love tradition here at Pure Luxe Bride, but we understand that your wedding day must be perfectly suited to you. Below, we've compiled some of the wedding traditions we don't think you and your hubby have to follow!
One of the oldest wedding traditions in existence is not seeing each other before the ceremony. It is also the tradition that has since been the most modernized. Nowadays, what the industry calls a "first look" is not only popular, but utilized more frequently than not. A "first look" is an intimate time when the bride and groom see each other right before the ceremony, coordinated by the photographer and the planner. With just the photographer standing by to capture the special moment, the "first look" is a chance for the bride and groom to see each other, calm their nerves and exchange their last words and kisses as an unwed couple. It's also a time for the photographer to capture potentially more creative and better photos, without being rushed.
Traditionally performed after the cake cutting, the groom will remove and throw the garter to the unmarried gentlemen, and the bride tosses her bouquet to the unmarried ladies. Whoever catches these items will be the next to wed! While it remains a fun tradition, the bouquet and garter tosses aren't totally necessary. If you and your hubby would rather keep your guests on the dance floor after the cake is cut, or you don't want to draw attention to those guests that are still single - skip this tradition! Don't worry - you're not missing out and you'll be just as happy dancing the night away.
So there's your sister (she's your Maid of Honor), your three roommates from college and the two girls from work... but oh! You can't forget about your cousins and it'd be nice to put the Best Man's girlfriend on the altar. Hmm and even though you wish you didn't have to keep your future sister-in-law up there... wait! It's a common wedding tradition to have a huge bridal party with everyone and their mother (literally) included. Why not break tradition and just have a Maid of Honor and a Best Man standing by your sides? Keep your bridal party (and inherently your budget) small!
It would be wonderful to get married in the church your parents were married in, but does it really suit you and your fiance's wedding day vision? If not, consider a destination wedding! Location traditions are limiting to one of your hometowns. Why not start a tradition of your own, in a city you can call your own. Destination weddings also act as a mini vacation for guests so pick a place they'll love (like Charleston)!

Fabulous Friday: Essentials for Your Tropical Honeymoon

What could be more fabulous than buying new essentials for your tropical honeymoon? Pure Luxe Bride has compiled some of our most favorite items that we deem essential to any tropical honeymoon. Let the packing begin....

Tropical Honeymoon-2

1 | This everyday, black clutch from Madewell is a necessity on any vacation - including your honeymoon! It’s always useful to have a small, cross body bag for moving through crowds or even just so that you don’t have to think about keeping your belongings safe. Black and gold go with everything, and so will this bag on your honeymoon!

2 | These beautiful, leather travel sized cases from Cuyana make traveling a breeze. Use them to store makeup, toiletries, jewelry, or carry it as a clutch to dinner! Small case sets like these are very useful, no matter where you’re traveling with your hubby!

3 | Josie Maran's nourishing, bohemian mist that textures, volumes and moisturizes your hair so it looks like beach waves. The mist is perfect for when you don’t feel like styling your hair for dinner, or want to control those salty locks.

4 | This is my favorite new look from Jack Rogers for the Spring/Summer 2014. While flip-flops are essential for tiptoeing on the sand, cute sandals are important to have for meals, dressing up or heading into town.

5 | Is there anything easier to accessorize with other than a set of bangles? These Ralph Lauren hammered bangle bracelets can be worn to the beach, to climb a waterfall or for brunch with your new husband - and did we mention gold goes with everything?!

6 | Another of my favorite looks from Tory Burch are her Panama Sunglasses. Timeless and simple in nature, but stylish and elegant no matter the occasion. Sunglasses are a must for everyday use to protect our eyes - why not do it in style?

7 |  One of the best lip balms I’ve seen yet - Clinique’s Chubby Stick is full of color, moisture and comes in 16 colors for all moods! Protect your lips from wind and sun burn with a moisturizing lip balm that’s full of color.

8 | Find a nude, lacey bra to compliment your tan. It’ll go with all your outfits, and look great against that freshly bronzed skin by itself...

9 | Just like sunglasses, hats are a must for everyday use to protect our skin and eyes. With a little more edge and style than a baseball cap, this Panama hat from Cuyana completes any bathing suit/cover up duo.

10 | Lush Cosmetics' Bare Naked Lady is formulated to give us a little extra shimmer on our skin before a night out on the town. Complete your sun-kissed glow from the beach with an extra golden sparkle. Leaves your skin feeling “sextraordinary”.

11 | Why not have a coverup that can be used both day and night? Hair tossed up in a bun with a bikini underneath makes for the perfect beach look from MILLY, while heels and some gold bangles will give this dress the look it needs at night.

Classic China

Register for a timeless and classic china pattern that will remain in style for as long as you are married.. forever! It's easy to mix and match classic china with fun accent plates and colors so why not plan for the long haul with a classic set? Timeless does NOT have to mean boring though, people! Look for metallic and neutral colors - you know we love anything gold! We suggest you register for twelve place settings; that way, you have enough for a dinner party and if your pattern happens to get discontinued, at least you'll have a full set plus more!

Gold Flatware

Gold, gold and more gold! Register for some gold flatware to accompany your new beautifully, patterned gold china. Add a little glamor to your dining room table! Nowadays, many gold flatware sets are dishwasher safe so they don't just have to be for dinner parties. You can use them every morning to glam up that bowl of Cheerios!

Cocktail Essentials

Whether you love to host or prefer cuddling up on the couch with a martini, cocktail essentials should be added to your registry! Glasses are at the top of any cocktail essentials list, follow by a bar set. Bar sets typically contain items such as shakers, jiggers, bottle openers and tongs. Appetizer plates, linens and even a bar cart would complete any cocktail essentials set! Oh, and don't forget to fully stock the bar!

Hobby Items

Due to online registries, our grooms are getting more in on the registration action. Barbeques, appliances and more are at the top of every groom's list. However, what better way to make both the groom and bride happy than with hobby items? Register for things you two can do together outside of your home - tents and fitness equipment are perfect for this! Get matching tennis rackets so you can dominate the court together, or buy climate-controlled sleeping bags for that snuggly camping trip you've been planning next fall.

Not only should couples register for the wedding, but let's not forget the honeymoon! Luggage sets are the perfect item for every couple, for any honeymoon, to anywhere. Luggage lasts a lot time too so you know you'll get very good use out of it not only now, but also in the future. Charity Registry

This day in age, a lot of couples are already living together before they tie the knot. If you already have everything you need, create a charity registry where guests can make donations in lieu of gifts. Check out sites like CrowdRise where you can even set a fundraising goal for you and your guests to reach. Another option includes Just Give  that helps couples create charitable wedding favors supporting an organization close to both your hearts.

Fabulous Friday: Relax with Wedding Yoga

Melora Morgan recently reached out to Pure Luxe Bride to tell us all about her amazing traveling yoga business, Serenity Tree Yoga. Melora has been a yoga instructor for over 10 years in the Charleston area and has a particular focus on brides. She believes that "planning a wedding can be one of the most stressful times of your life - trying to meet deadlines, perfect every detail and keep everyone happy. Bringing yoga into your wedding creates a space of unity and relaxation, and helps connect you to the deeper meaning of your special day."

She has worked with many brides in the past year and the transformation they have experienced in both body and mind during the planning process is incredible. Melora offers several different wedding packages including Bachelorette and Bridal Shower sessions, Private One-on-One sessions with the bride, Bride and Groom sessions and even sessions for the entire Bridal Party. She also offers Wedding Day-of Yoga. What a fabulous idea!

Serenity Tree Yoga is not only perfect for all of our Pure Luxe Brides but her services are perfect for our Ladies of Leisure as well! What better way to unwind and enjoy a stress free weekend than with deep relaxation yoga. Follow Serenity Tree Yoga on Facebook and learn more about Melora here! Check out the review below from one of Melora's brides as well!

“I worked with her in class and also in one-on-one sessions in preparation for my wedding, as a self-proclaimed crazy Bridezilla I wanted to let go of anxious energy and learn to be in the moment so that on my wedding day, I could feel present and open. As a bride, there is so much chaos going on around you that it is easy to absorb all that distraction and not truly be “in the moment”, not only as the big day approaches but on the actual wedding day. On my wedding morning, Melora and I climbed on the roof of my beachhouse at IOP and did 2 hours of yoga and reiki. This was before the craziness of the day began, where it was just her and I and our mats. I can honestly say it was the BEST thing I did for myself for my wedding day. All my worries, fear, anxiety and constant stream of thoughts just disappeared and I was able to walk down the aisle feeling like the only emotion that remained in my body was pure, overflowing happiness and joy.

What a gift to be able to truly experience such an important day from a heart that is open and clear. I never, ever would have been able to have that experience if it weren’t for the work I did with Melora, for the things she has taught me along the way, and for the yoga that morning on the rooftop. I promise you, it will make such a difference in how you experience your special day. It is a gift to give yourself. Everybody says that your wedding day flies by and it is over before you know it. This is partly true. But I know that my experience was different, my memories clear of each and every beautiful second. The best part was I wasn’t nervous, I was just really, really happy. Thank you Melora for helping me have that experience of truly “being present” and living in the moment. You are the best!!"

Pure Luxe Bride's Wedding Week Do's & Don't's

Pure Luxe wants to share with all of our brides the do's and don't's of your wedding week. Make sure to review all of these tips and tricks; one of them could be the one that saves the day! DO touch base with your planner. The best way to put yourself at ease to talk it out: go over all of the details (again), discuss the timeline (again), and take a breath. Have faith in your planner and/or vendors to make your day as special as you’ve always imagined.

DON’T turn into a weather woman. Let us track the weather and come up with plan B for you. Chances are if you look at Charleston weather 5-10 days out, it's going to change before the big day.

DO delegate. Speaking of the in-laws, sisters, uncles and cousins, have them help you with all those last minute errands and details. They’re going to be constantly offering so why not just let them make that call to the officiant or schedule that appointment for you to get your mani/pedi.

DON’T forget to pamper yourself during your wedding week - or even for a couple weeks beforehand! We know you’re getting your hair and makeup done the day of, but why not schedule a massage, mani/pedi and a facial?! Squeeze some last minute relaxation in. Go with your mom, your maid of honor or just take some time to go by yourself.

Cassady Clayton and Joe Hild's wedding at the Gibbes Museum in Charleston SC. Wedding photographer Charleston SC, modern vintage photography, amelia + dan, 843.801.2790, ameliaanddan.com

DO make a plan for the end of the night with your planner, family members and bridal party. It’s important to have a plan for all the items that need transporting at the end of the night. Your bags, veil, any leftover food and decor items you may have brought need an exit strategy - just like you! Don’t forget to pack your overnight back as well!

DON’T wear too much makeup. Do a trial run with your makeup artist beforehand and remember to not wear anything you normally wouldn’t. The last thing you want to do is look back at your wedding photos and wonder what you were thinking.

DO get a spray tan - but again, do a trial run. It is recommended that spray tans get done roughly 2-3 days before your special day. Plan accordingly!

Screen Shot 2014-01-15 at 2.51.31 PM

DON’T ignore your final payments! Typically, during the week of, or even on the day of, your final vendor payments will be due. Absolutely do not forget to make these payments and balance your checkbook before leaving for your honeymoon.

DO take a few days of work during your wedding week. It’s enough having those last minute errands and details to cover, but to do it all with your in-laws, sisters, uncles and cousins hovering or staying in the guest room, work is going to be the last thing on your brain.

However, DON’T take the entire week off. You can use work as an escape from all the craziness: a reason to leave your house, a reason to dodge a lunch date with ALL of the future in-laws, or just a reason to focus on something other than the big day!

DO go to the gym. Take a yoga or zumba class with your bridesmaids. Get moving, get sweating and get those endorphins pumping! No reason to be cooped up all the time stressing about those last minute details. Get your mind off of the wedding and take a moment to laugh with your ladies about how inflexible you all are…

Screen Shot 2014-01-15 at 3.09.37 PM

DON’T show everyone what you look like in your wedding dress before your special day. We understand how exciting it is, but trust us - it’s more special when you wait until the day of.

DO get your groom a little something to open on your wedding day. Write him a card or buy him a little something to remind him of how much you love him. His pre-wedding jitters will definitely calm at the sight of something that reminds him of you.

DON’T freak out if things don’t go as planned. For example, if the cake doesn’t look exactly how you want it to, remember that it tastes good. Take the day as it comes and just have fun!

Screen Shot 2014-01-15 at 2.52.42 PM

DO be a guest at your own wedding! Be in the moment on the day of; trust us, you won’t want to miss a thing. All of your planning, anticipation and excitement all comes down to this one day so stop worrying about each and every detail and just enjoy yourself. Enjoy the celebration, the guests and most importantly, your new hubby.

DON’T forget to love your family. Thank them for everything they have done to make this special day possible. No matter how stressful your parents have made you the weeks, months and year before, on the day of your wedding, you’ll be so grateful to have them with you.
