Fabulous Friday: Cakes We Adore

What's better than digging into your favorite slice of cake after dancing off a few calories? Especially when the cake looks as good as it tastes! We love the unique designs that our brides + PLB have come up with! Whether it's a small cutting cake or 3 tiers, each cake brings a special design element to the reception. We absolutely love the gold foil trend that has taken off! However, we can't discriminate against cake... Naked cakes, or even traditional simple buttercream cakes adorned with fresh flowers are sometimes too pretty too eat. We are blessed with some amazingly talented bakers who make cakes that not only look good, but taste amazing too! Check out some of our favorites!

Middleton Place Wedding: Shelby + Nick

To say that Shelby + Nick's Middleton Place Wedding was a night to remember would be an understatement. As guests arrived at the venue, they were greeted with passed champagne to quench their thirst as they took a stroll through the beautiful gardens to arrive at the Octagonal Garden for the ceremony. The bridesmaids looked totally chic in mismatched black dresses and even the flower girl looked adorable in her custom-made black tutu dress and pearl necklace. As Shelby + her father began their walk down the aisle, Nick looked at his bride with awe and soon after, the couple said their "I Do's" in front of a historic tree with the shimmering lake in the backdrop. After their first kiss, the newlyweds were sent off by their guests waving pom-poms and were picked up by a horse-drawn carriage to finish taking pictures. Cocktail hour was held in the garden overlooking the Butterfly Lakes with a strings duo to set the mood. The bride + groom's signature cocktails, Southern Sweetness served in a mason jar and a Yankee Mule in a copper mug, were a hit and the couple joined cocktail hour just in time to have their first dance at sunset. At the end of their first dance, guests were surprised with a fireworks show over the lake to kick off dinner and the reception. Dinner was served in the Greensward under café lighting with beautiful red and black florals and candelabras with Ferrero Rocher place cards. After dinner, everyone got ready to dance the night away under the reception tent with black and white lounge, mini desserts, and a cigar roller! When the night was over, Shelby + Nick were sent off with a sparkler tunnel and were whisked away in a vintage white Rolls Royce.

Legare-Waring House Wedding: Liz + Kenny

Liz + Kenny's Legare-Waring House wedding was a detailed dream come true for these two LA love birds. Liz and Kenny met via mutual friends in 2011, on the same day her school, UNC, defeated his alma mater, UW, in a heartbreaker game during the March Madness Basketball Tournament. Luckily, she was able to mend his heart over cheap Chinese food and they’ve been together ever since. As a contributor to multiple wedding magazines, Liz had seen it all. She wanted a wedding that truly stood out from the crowd, and wowed her LA guests. Liz loved the idea of a bright and colorful wedding inspired by vibrant fall hues that accented the gorgeous property of the historical Legare Waring House. She had a clear vision for a whimsical wedding with beautiful wildflowers accented with watercolors. Wildflowers ran the lengths of the tables and tall pillar candles were scattered throughout to create a beautiful glow. Everyone could tell where the bride + groom were sitting, with vintage green arm chairs from 428 Main, gold chargers, and floral napkins saving their seats.   As the ceremony began, guests were able to see the stunning bridesmaids in their mismatched neutral gowns that complemented each maid perfectly. Of course, we can't forget the boys! Navy suits made a huge impact against all of the greenery and Kenny stood out with his unique Charleston favorite-Brackish bow tie. All heads turned, as Liz began down the aisle in her Jenny Packham dress. Her father walked with her down the colorfully petaled aisle, and she met Kenny underneath an arbor of wildflowers. After this sweet couple read their vows and did the traditional Jewish breaking of the glass, it was time to celebrate! Liz + Kenny met their other true love at the end of the aisle for some pictures, and their dog Whiskey, could not have been more excited for his parents.  Guests enjoyed small bites and cool cocktails with floral printed straws during this beautiful October night. After everyone had said a few sweet words, it was time for these guests to get a taste of some southern cooking. Salthouse catering provided a delicious station of country fried chicken and mac & cheese. For those foodies in the group, guests also enjoyed grilled fish tacos and a gorgeous best of season display. Liz added a special detail by getting her bar signs, station signs, and hashtag signs hand calligraphied on water color printed paper to match her invitation suite. Once dancing began, Liz changed from her simple flower crown into her "party crown."  Big and bold blooms let the crowd know that it was time to put on their dancing shoes!  Of course the night wouldn't have been complete without celebrating the tradition of the Jewish hoorah! Liz + Kenny departed with their guests to keep the party going in downtown Charleston!

Planning Tip Tuesday: Countdown to the big day!

As the wedding day gets closer and closer, we know that the stress can start to build when it comes to remembering the little things leading up to the day! When packing up for the big day, here are some things you won't want to forget!

1.)Marriage License

Make sure that you have everything squared away with your Marriage License. After all, that's what all this planning was for anyway! Just remember that there is a $70.00 fee for the license, and a 24 hour waiting period before the license can be picked up.

2.) Get your dress steamed

Don't let there be a single wrinkle in your gorgeous white gown on the big day! Get your dress steamed a couple of days before or the day-of the wedding and you will look perfect walking down that aisle.

3.) Set aside vendor tips

Go ahead and set aside your tips for each of the vendors that you loved working with! We recommend placing each tip in a separate envelope with the vendor noted. You can hand over the tips over to our team when we meet the week-of and we'll make sure they get distributed at the end of the night!

4.) Stay hydrated!

We know that you will have champagne in hand, but make sure you bring plenty of water for yourself and bridal party. You will want to make sure you stay hydrated so that you can enjoy the rest of the night headache-free!

Middleton Place Wedding: Caroline + Rob

This couple came all the way from England to Charleston for their Middleton Place wedding joined by family and friends. We transformed the pavilion with soft romantic hues, mini gold chandeliers, blush draping, and a gorgeous cake creating the elegant space they dreamed of. The brides bouquet was full of dahlias, lisianthus, roses, peonies and a trailing gold ribbon. The couple said their vows at the octagonal gardens, and then moved to the crane pool to enjoy delicious southern h'ordeuvres including Shepards pie, a British staple! After cocktail hour, guests moved inside the pavilion as the couple shared their first dance as husband and wife preformed acoustically by a close friend. Tasteful stations were provided by Cru catering and pralines were treated to guests as their favor and late night sweet! It was the perfect day for Caroline + Rob, thank you for letting us be a part of it!

William Aiken House Wedding: Megan + Davan

Megan + Davan had a perfect William Aiken House wedding. This venue perfectly complimented their art-deco design and vibrant love for one another. Their wedding was full of eye-catching details, from the bride's elegant Pronovias dress paired with studded Prada heels, to her luscious bouquet filled with rich Anemones. Megan was the center of attention all night long, along with her handsome groom, of course! The groom opted for a classic black tux. They had a stunning clear top tent draped in silver and over sized chandelier that glistened over the dance floor. The lounge area also provided a luxurious space with a bright silver ottoman, surrounded by tufted couches,  rich floral arrangements, and candlelight. These special details made for an elegant and intimate reception where friends and family danced the night away. In true southern form, Megan + Davan were sent off by their guests through an archway of sparklers into Downtown Charleston on a romantic rickshaw ride!  It was truly a wedding to remember. Thank you to Hyer Images for capturing this Gatsby inspired wedding!

Carolyn + Blake's colorful Lowndes Grove Plantation Wedding was simply stunning! The tent was draped in a beautiful tiffany blue with pops of pink and gorgeous chandeliers. Sit back and take in all the pretty details; the perfect pair of pink Valentino's, personalized koozies, heart shaped ceremony fans, lanterns, specialty cocktails, custom bar pannels and much much more! The floral centerpieces created by Branch Design Studio were full of white hydrangeas, coral peonies, garden roses, astilbe, dusty miller, and ranunculus. Boone Hall Wedding at The Cotton Dock: Megan + Blake

We still can't get enough of Megan + Blake's rustic chic Boone Hall Wedding at the Cotton Dock! This wedding was full of thoughtful details that made for a beautiful night to remember! The day began with hair and makeup for Megan and the girls by Paper Dolls on Isle of Palms, while Blake and the boys suited up at Wild Dunes. Everyone met at Boone Hall Plantation for the bride + groom's long-awaited first look! With the combination of this couple's style + the natural beauty of the plantation grounds, these pictures came out utterly perfect. When it came time for the ceremony, dark skies were on the horizon, but Pure Luxe Bride quickly rocked the rain plan and held a standing ceremony for guests on the dock under the overhang. Wine barrel cocktail tables served as impromptu aisle markers and the lounge furniture was used to seat the immediate family of the bride + groom. The bride was a vision of elegance as she walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of "Something in the Way She Moves" by James Taylor. Her organic bouquet by Branch was blooming with white astilbe, white ranunculus, white sweet peas, dusty miller leaves, Queen Anne's lace, pale yellow poppies, soft blush ranunculus, and more, tied together with an ivory lace ribbon. Megan also wore a flower crown with loose stems of baby's breath, spirea, and white majolica spray roses. Post-nuptials, cocktail hour kicked off with the wedding's signature drink, local Firefly sweet tea vodka + lemonade in a mason jar, and passed hors d'oeuvres by Cru Catering. Guests then made their way to their seats at dark-wood farm tables decorated with white lace runners, wooden boxes filled with a spilling arrangement of soft yellow ranunculus, white lilac, apricot parrot tulips, and more, vintage blue mason jars filled with candles, and milk glass bud vases with peachy blush sweet peas. Vintage books with hand-painted gold numbers served as the table markers and mahogany stained wooden wine crates filled with sheet moss and queen annes lace housed the guest's place cards. A mouth-watering plated dinner was served to guests while Megan's matron of honor gave a heartfelt speech to the newlyweds. After dinner, it was time to cut the three-tiered cake by Sablee made up of champagne cake with wild strawberry and champagne filling, coconut cake with coconut cream filling, and vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream filling. Guests enjoyed cake and mingling while dancing to the sounds of Epic Charleston all night long! A few of our other favorite details from this elegant reception included the chandelier above the dance floor covered in a lush, organic arrangement of flowers and the vintage, distressed mirrors hanging on one of the back walls. As the night came to an end, the new Mr. + Mrs. danced to "Is This Love" by Bob Marley before happily departing through a sparkler archway! Thanks so much to Hyer Images for capturing this gorgeous wedding!
