Fabulous Friday: Cakes We Adore

What's better than digging into your favorite slice of cake after dancing off a few calories? Especially when the cake looks as good as it tastes! We love the unique designs that our brides + PLB have come up with! Whether it's a small cutting cake or 3 tiers, each cake brings a special design element to the reception. We absolutely love the gold foil trend that has taken off! However, we can't discriminate against cake... Naked cakes, or even traditional simple buttercream cakes adorned with fresh flowers are sometimes too pretty too eat. We are blessed with some amazingly talented bakers who make cakes that not only look good, but taste amazing too! Check out some of our favorites!

Planters Inn Wedding: Jen + Jack

Jen + Jack’s Planters Inn wedding was the perfect venue to host the best day of their lives. After getting ready, the couple met for their ‘first-look” at Washington Square Park in the French Quarter Area which was beautifully captured by Aaron + Jillian Photography Planters Inn, Charleston is such a special and unique venue due to its intimate space, downtown location, and beautiful courtyard. The couple was married under a  lush green arbor with their closest friends and family. Blush, peach, and white hued blooms with accents of burgundy and greenery topped every table alongside gold accents. The beauty of the event was forever captured by Ben from Wed by Canvas with a original portrait of the ceremony.

Lowndes Grove Plantation Wedding: Jackie + Branson

You are in for a treat today! Jackie + Branson had a gorgeous Lowndes Grove Plantation Wedding with tons of pretty details! The couple met while attending law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later moved to Atlanta together after dating long distance. The bride loved the little details so for starters, there was a white top tent with blush draping and crystal chandeliers, of course! White and peach hued florals by Branch Design Studio, gold chivari chairs, glass chargers, and plenty of candlelight. For place cards, the guests found their seat by a mint colored macaroon with a gold sparkly flag noting the guests name, perfect after dinner sweet! A delicious dinner was served by Patrick Properties Hospitality Group along with a delicious cake gold brushed cake for dessert. Underneath the big Oak was the half moon bar, with the bride + groom's gold leaf monogram and a chandelier overhead, one of our favorite details of the big day! You can also find their monogram carried throughout the reception on their napkins, favors, menu's and more! After dinner, it was time to dance the night away with Quiana Parler and Friends and end the night with a sparkler departure! You can find this wedding recently featured in Southern Bride Magazine. See all the pretty captured by Aaron and Jillian Photography here!

Wingate Plantation Elopement: Lindsey + Brandon

We absolutely love styling a sweet intimate elopement for a bride + groom. For couples who love swooning over detailed photos, a styled elopement is the way to go! This gorgeous elopement for Lindsey + Brandon took place at Wingate Plantation in Johns Island, and it was all about the little details! The wonderful Aaron + Jillian photography captured all of the pretty of Lindsay getting ready, from her beautiful lace BHLDN dress to her maroon colored MRS.BOX. The day started out with a bit of rain, and Lindsey used this to her advantage by getting to take adorable photos in her bright red Hunter rainboots. After the first look, these two lovebirds said their vows underneath a sparkling chandelier hanging from an old oak tree. Once the ceremony was over, it was photo time! The bride + groom toasted their new marriage on a hot pink loveseat from 428 Main. They held a sign that said "Surprise" to send out to family + friends. The cake was all gold with a bright red bloom that complemented Lindsey's bouquet. After moving around the plantation for some picture perfect sunset photos, the bride + groom were ready to say goodbye. They finished the perfect day with some photos under a shower of gold confetti. We watched as the new Mr. & Mrs. headed off to enjoy their first meal together as husband and wife.  Congratulations to Lindsey + Brandon!

Lowndes Grove Plantation Wedding: Stephanie + Chad

Stephanie + Chad's classic  Lowndes Grove Plantation wedding couldn't have been more perfect! These out-of-owners traveled from North Carolina to have their dream wedding in Charleston at the picturesque Lowndes Grove Plantation. Stephanie looked breathtaking in her Modern Trousseau gown as she walked down the aisle of St.Lukes chapel with her father to "Rondeau" by Mouret. Her lush bouquet was full of white peonies and white ranunculus with accents of dusty miller, lavender sweet peas, white fringe tulips, white patience garden roses, and more!  As guests began to arrive at Lowndes Grove for the reception, Stephanie + Chad warmly welcomed them into the house for cocktail hour while guests enjoyed delicious sips and bites. The clear tent was gracefully draped in ivory with chandeliers glistening from the top.  At each place setting, guests found their names written in gold calligraphy on Magnolia leaves with sprigs of rosemary, olive, and lavender accenting each napkin. Long table garlands full of magnolia leaves, olive branch, and seeded eucalyptus filled the tables, with colorful pops of white fringe tulips, white ranunculus, and lavender sweet peas. Gold silverware, gold rimmed glasses, and custom menus by Silver Starfish completed this elegant table setting.  Guests enjoyed a delicious 3 course plated dinner while the sounds of big band music by Joe Clarke Big Band flooded the tent.  This fantastic night had to come to an end, but not before guests enjoyed a variety of mini desserts and one more song by the band before departing in the vintage Rolls Royce!  Thanks so much to Aaron and Jillian for capturing all this pretty and best wishes to the sweetest couple, Stephanie + Chad!

Magnolia Plantation Wedding: Kimberly + Clint

Kimberly + Clint's Magnolia Plantation Wedding was a beautiful, intimate gathering for the happy couple! The bridal party started hair and makeup bright and early with Paper Dolls in the Carriage Suite at Magnolia Plantation, while the groom and his groomsmen got ready together offsite. With rain on the horizon and a desire for pictures on Magnolia's lush grounds, the couple opted for a first look (although not originally planned) and the pictures turned out absolutely gorgeous! We were overjoyed that Kimberly + Clint got the shots they wanted, and it just goes to show that with a little trust, everything will turn out just fine, rain or shine! Following the couple's impromptu first look, the ceremony took place under the oaks with a view of the water as Kimberly + Clint said their vows to each other. Kimberly carried a hand-tied bouquet by Wild Flowers filled with white and green hydrangeas, garden roses, white ranunculus, blush pink lisianthus, and more, plus fabulous pops of bright pink ranunculus. Following the ceremony, Mosaic Catering kicked off cocktail hour with gourmet mimosas in pineapple, orange, and cranberry flavors and bloody marys, complete with celery, pickled vegetables, cracked pepper, bacon swizzles, and a variety of hot sauces. Passed hors d'oeuvres were also served, including chicken dipped waffle bites, yogurt parfaits, and apricot chicken salad. Next, the newlyweds were announced into the reception as "Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Thomas" and they shared their first dance to "At Last" by Etta James. The bride + groom then welcomed their guests to the reception and invited them to enjoy brunch! Brunch stations were set around the room, including His + Hers omelettes, Charleston grits, and an assortment of biscuits. This spread by Mosaic was simply delicious! Tables were adorned with lush centerpieces in rustic wooden boxes and locally made and wrapped pralines as a sweet treat for guests! Rustic-chic lounge was set in the middle of the space in front of Kimberly + Clint's sweetheart table, complete with basket weave chairs for the sweet couple. Ivory drape by Pure Luxe Bride softened the space and tied the design together perfectly. Guests had a wonderful time on the dance-floor dancing to tunes by DJ Rob Duren. At the end of this lovely day, the new Mr. + Mrs. were happily sent on their way with a bubble send off! Thanks so much to Aaron + Jillian for capturing all this pretty!

Historic Rice Mill Wedding: Lacey + Joey

We absolutely adored this romantic glam brunch wedding for Lacey + Joey, a couple from Florida who chose the Historic Rice Mill to serve as the perfect backdrop for their wedding on the water! The day began with hair and makeup by Paper Dolls (and plenty of Starbucks) for the bridal party at the Charleston Place suite. The bridal party + groomsmen then made their way over to the Rice Mill for an outdoor ceremony under a clear tent on the back patio. Who says rain is bad luck on your wedding day?! Pure Luxe Bride rocked the rain plan with swagged light pink drape from the top of the tent and ivory drape at the altar, held back by lush floral tie backs full of white hydrangeas and blush garden roses, creating an intimate ceremony space. Rows of gold chivari chairs lined the aisle that was covered with pink, blush, and white rose petals. Joey's smile was contagious as Lacey gracefully walked down the aisle beside her father. After the ceremony, guests made their way inside for the start of the reception! The room was filled with shades of taupe, peach, blush, ivory, and champagne, as two long tables ran down the center of the space. Clear candle votives were scattered along the length of the table with tall crystal candelabras topped with a spilling arrangement of white hydrangeas, blush sweet peas, blush ranunculus, white amaryllis, and more. Another gorgeous floral arrangement was an elegant hanging garland over the bride + groom's cake, brimming with white majolica spray roses, blush garden roses, white lilac, and more! Branch did an absolutely beautiful job with these flowers. Textured linens and taupe loveseats completed the lounge's chic look. Guests enjoyed a delicious brunch, complete with a juice and coffee bar, by Good Food CateringChucktown Sound kept the guests on their feet as they danced the day away before it was time to send off the happy couple through a cloud of bubbles! Thanks so much to Aaron and Jillian for capturing this gorgeous Historic Rice Mill Wedding!

William Aiken House Wedding: Lisa + Scott

Lisa + Scott tied the knot in December at their William Aiken House wedding creating a classic, elegant feel with colors of navy and ivory. The couple wanted to make sure they commemorated  their families on this special day by setting up a table where guests had the chance to see old wedding photos of loved ones. Lisa's bouquet was full of Garden Roses, Ranunculus and small touches of Brunia Berries and Dusty Miller- it was the perfect winter bouquet by Wild Flowers.  The tablescape was full of glass lanterns, blooms, and candles for an intimate post-wedding dinner. Navy napkins were delicately placed at every chair with a personalized menu card, showing a loving message from the couple on the front and the dinner menu on the back.  As dinner concluded, guests headed downstairs for a delicious cake and dancing!  The lounge area was set up with gorgeous white studded couches, complete with "Mr. and Mrs." pillows. Lisa + Scott were sent on their way into downtown Charleston, and their family and friends departed with a sweet treat to save for later! Thanks to Aaron and Jillian for capturing all the pretty!

Planning Tip Tuesday: Why you Need 8 Hours of Photography

We have interviewed some of our trusted photographers to give our couples an answer to a frequently asked question, "Why is it important to have at least 8 hours of photography?" Funny moments with your bridesmaids and groomsmen, peaking outside as guests are starting to arrive, your dress hanging, getting dressed; each and every moment is important to capture! See below for some great responses!

Aaron + Jillian: It's ONE day, and sadly, as much as we'd all love to relive our wedding days, it just can't be re-done, which is why we believe that having as many hours of photography coverage as you can, will be sooo worth every penny you invest into it! if at the end of the day, you want to have photos of your shoes, your invitations, your jewelry, your bouquet, your dress hanging (all the details you poured over for months), you and your bridesmaids hanging out in the bridal suite and your reaction to opening your gift or card from your fiancé, all the way to the moment you run through a tunnel of sparklers and jump into that vintage rolls royce, you're going to need at least 8 hours! Your wedding photos should be able to tell the story of your day, from beginning to end!!

Catherine+Alex'sMagnoliaPlantationCarriageHouseWeddingbyCharlestonWeddingPhotographersAaronandJillianPhotography--50 Catherine+Alex'sMagnoliaPlantationCarriageHouseWeddingbyCharlestonWeddingPhotographersAaronandJillianPhotography--15 Catherine+Alex'sMagnoliaPlantationCarriageHouseWeddingbyCharlestonWeddingPhotographersAaronandJillianPhotography--27

Dana Cubbage: "In my experience as a wedding photographer, you need at least 8 hours of wedding photography to ensure a relaxed, stress-free + laid back wedding day.  Anything less than 8 hours doesn't give your photographer enough time to tell the entire story of your wedding day without feeling rushed.  I personally prefer to start shooting 90 minutes before the bride puts on her gown, so that I have time to warm up for the day by photographing all of her beautiful bridal details, like the gown, shoes, jewelry, bouquets, invitations, etc.   Most of my clients opt to do a First Look, which is beneficial on so many levels – but it really extends the length of the wedding day as well, so my clients usually need more like 9-10 hours of wedding day coverage if they want me there from start to finish. At the end of the day, you've spent so much time planning this picture perfect day and when it's all said and done, the photos will be the one lasting reminder of everything you saw + felt on that day.  For that reason, I believe it is important to have someone there who will document it all from start to finish – and in my experience, clients need at least 8 hours of photography coverage to accomplish that." View More: http://danacubbageweddings.pass.us/andreaandchrismarried © Dana Cubbage Weddings 2014 © Dana Cubbage Weddings 2014 © Dana Cubbage Weddings 2014

Amelia + Dan: "Your wedding day is one of the most important stories of your life, and you want to be able to relive your story for years to come.  Powerful photographs have the ability to take you back to those brief moments in time; giving you the opportunity to laugh, cry and smile over and over again.  Every wedding timeline is unique, but the longer we are there documenting the day the more memories you will have preserved to experience all over again."

Hyer Images:  "When deciding the amount of hours needed for wedding photography, we are always looking for the sweet spot for amount of time.  We want to ensure there is enough time to capture the day and to allow it to logistically flow smoothly.  If there is not enough time allotted for a photographer the wedding day may easily seem rushed, stressed, or possibly not even enough time to tell the story of the day.  It takes time to capture images, and a bride and groom want to be relaxed and enjoy the day, so make sure there is enough time for this to happen.  We find the typical sweet spot for arrival is 2hrs prior to ceremony time, and if a first look is happening more time may be needed.  The two hours prior to the ceremony allows a professional photographer to capture getting ready, details and the grounds before it is over crowed with guests.  Every wedding is not the same, but most are logistically planned out the same and we find that 8hrs of coverage is the typical sweet spot for allowing enough time, but yet stays away from unneeded time."
